The Mesa County Parks overseer is the Parks and Recreation department. The Parks and Recreation department oversees 31 developed and 7 undeveloped park sites, and more than nineteen miles of Riverfront trail system. A variety of indoor and outdoor activities in attractive, clean and safe surroundings are provided by the department. Amongst the activities are numerous instructional classes ranging from scuba and tennis lessons to landscaping and exercise classes. Competitive sports offered include volleyball, basketball, track and field, tennis and softball. The parks include the following amenities: A State of the Art Multi-purpose complex with over three miles of soft and concrete surface trail, two playgrounds, 8 multi-purpose fields, four football fields, basketball courts, two softball fields, hockey rink, a handball court, two sand volley ball areas, and three shelters.

The dog park is located at the northern most end of Canyon View Park, north of the softball field complex and across the driveway. The area is approximately 3.2 acres enclosed by a 6’ chain link fence with two separate double gated entry points. These areas allow for an owner to leash and un-leash their dog within these secure areas. seasonal body of water for the dogs’ enjoyment and refreshment. Another popular park in Mesa County is Westlake Skatepark.

Westlake Skatepark is 18,000 square feet of fenced concrete bowls and street skate area. This Park offers one street skate area, with miscellaneous objects: rails, walls, ramps, and boxes. Thousands of skateboarders, bikers, and in-line skaters use the park extensively. This $223,000 skateboard park has been been featured in Thrasher, American City and County, Colorado Parks and Recreation and Colorado Municipalities magazines, among others, and The Denver Post.
